The Superior Precision tool set was designed to take advantage of the way that rimless cartridges rely on the shoulder to shoulder contact between the chamber and case to position the bullet. The Superior Precision tool set includes a Neck Sizer with two die, a Chamber Gauge, a Cartridge Gauge, an adjustable Headspace Gauge, and a Bullet Seater.
The shoulder to shoulder contact between the case and the chamber controls concentricity. If the shoulder of the chamber is concentric with the bore and the bullet is concentric with the shoulder of the case, then the bullet will become concentric with the bore when the shoulder of the case is pressed into the shoulder of the chamber by the ejection pin. The Superior Precision Neck Sizer is designed to ensure that the bullet is held concentric with the case shoulder using a two step process. First, the shrinking die reduces the neck diameter. Then, an expanding die stretches the neck to the proper internal diameter while making the internal surface concentric with the case shoulder. The result is superior control of neck tension and concentricity.
The shoulder to shoulder contact between the case and chamber also controls how far forward the bullet is positioned. Superior Precision's Chamber Gauge measures the distance between the chamber shoulder datum and the bore. The Cartridge Gauge measures the distance between the case shoulder datum and the part of the bullet where the diameter is the same as the bore (we call this the bullet datum). Bullet jump is the difference between these two values. The Superior Precision Bullet Seater is designed to control the distance between the case shoulder datum and the bullet datum, the result is superior control of bullet jump independent of bullet shape.
The adjustable Headspace Gauge measures the distance from the chamber shoulder datum to the bolt face. The Cartridge Gauge is also used to measure the distance from the case shoulder datum to the base. Headspace clearance is the difference between these two values.
These tools are available for SAAMI standard rimless (shoulder breeching) cartridges as well as custom/wildcat rimless designs.
These patented tools are similar to the tools you are used to but there are distinct differences that you need to understand to use them correctly. You will need a good caliper to use these tools (we use an 8" digital) and they will not work with all presses. Please use the menu above to visit the individual tool pages for a brief description of each tool. You will find how-to videos and more documentation on the Library page. You can order a tool set through the Orders page. Please contact us through the About page if you have any questions.
